Setting the van world straight (very briefly)

  • Many want to benefit from the Ducato’s width being one of the widest panel vans available. However many people due to lack of knowledge are often making sub-optimal buying decisions by buying their extra bed width base van on the wrong vehicle.

Very briefly I will conclude so that you can read on to the rest of what we have on offer here.

  • The Citreon relay, Peugeot Boxer and Fiat Ducato ALL share the same body / chassis. However they do not all share the same running gear.
  • The Citreon and Peugeot run the rather tragic 2.2 set-up, known for being incredibly unreliable and difficult to repair, referring here both to the gearbox and engine.
  • The Fiat Ducato uses IVECO’s 2.3 (belt driven) or even better, but rarer the 3.0 (chain driven) which are far, FAR superior set-ups. Thus the viewer of this advert should have every faith in this vehicles running gear and decide only on whether the build meets their criteria and if they like the look of living with a Large Red Vehicle!

THIS VAN IS THE 3.0 CHAIN DRIVEN…

Who can drive this vehicle?

  • This vehicle was originally a 4005kg vehicle, enabling the fire service to benefit from the extra load capacity incase emergency equipment required swift transit to an incident.
  • At this Gross weight there is a restricted audience of drivers, those who past their test pre 1997 on the grandfathers rights scheme and those holding a HGV license.
  • Consequently we’ve downplated the vehicle to a gross weight of 3500kg, enabling anybody, literally anybody with a normal driving license to take this vehicle anywhere!
  • The vehicle still benefits from its “MAXI” set-up, with uprated springs and shock absorbers meaning your driving experience is significantly improved and at your maximum payload the van will still be sitting as if its empty.

About their conversion….Who, Where and When?

  • During the 2022 COVID pandemic many skilled joiners were unable to go to work. One of these skilled men was my brother-in-law. The opportunity was presented where there was a period of time available for him to finally show off his skills by converting a camper and my priority was ensuring we had the best possible base vehicle to base the conversion on!
  • Thus, at the beginning of the pandemic the conversion began and very quickly after he was retuned to work, much sooner than we anticipated, thus leaving the vehicle some-what incomplete and that’s why its being sold as project to finish at a fantastic price!
  • The vehicle was converted in our workshops to the highest of standards and following the best practices. Everything from the design, to the quality of the materials and components were carefully selected as the vehicle was planned to be kept within the family for our own use.

The conversion foundations..

  • The vehicle was a super clean vehicle to work with from the get-go. We removed the internal panels and floor, gave the vehicle a thorough clean and began insulating.
  • The floor, ceiling and walls all feature 25mm cylotex insulation, vapour barrier and sound deadening. The floor was finished off with the incredibly durable 18mm marine plywood and the walls / ceilings with tongue & groove finishing in a lovely pale white paint finish.

Shower, sink  and water storage

  • The shower represents one of the areas that contribute to the categorisation of the vehicle as an incomplete camper van project.
  • Underneath the vehicle there are chassis mounted wanks.  The two insulated tanks installed offer  one for waste water and the other for clean water – to support the shower system and the sink system.
  • There are water pumps and everything is there that is needed to complete the shower / toilet area conversion.
  • The water tanks can be filled up from an external flap that’s been installed and emptied very simply too.

Heating, clean air and condensation

  • As well as the vehicle being very well insulated, keeping the vehicle cool during the summer and warm during the colder months. The vehicle features a 5kw diesel heater.
  • The vehicle has its own fuel tank and can be ran on cheaper alternatives to conventional diesel found at the fuel pump. The heater is simply connected to the leisure battery and has a simple remote switch, one click and heat begins pouring into the living quarters within minutes and equally turned off through the same method.
  • The vehicle benefits from many means of accessing clean air. The skylight located above the rear seating area and the many windows in the vehicle that can be opened – not least to mention in extreme circumstances you could open both of the side loading doors..what a lovely breeze prospect!

Seating, eating and bed area

  • Towards the rear of the vehicle you will find an extremely comfortable seating area. The cushions were custom built in house and can cater for up-to six people socialising and eating.
  • This same area, with a little bit of shuffling transform into a large sleeping area. Which can comfortably sleep two large adult gorrilaz up-to around 6ft2.
  • There is plenty of floor space remaining in the vehicle for youngsters to nest on the floor with blow up mattresses and the like!

Cooking

  • One of the key benefits of this conversion is the large cooking space situated at the front of the van. There is plenty of work surface, extensive and deep cupboards.
  • Whilst cooking on the four ring burner, the chef of the van can open the off side loading door, ensuring no unnecessary cooking smells are left in the vehicle.
  • There is also space for a large fridge to go within the cupboards.
