About this van

The van we always recommend here at basevan to turn into the camper of your dreams is the former St John’s ambulances. Created by Renault, converted into an ambulance by papworth. The Cambridge based company always have always been more than capable of providing a fantastic ambulance, but could this spell the foundations of your van life dreams?

Yes. And this is why. Papworth were given the task of creating a van that had to provide heat, light, and power to multiple electrical appliances for both paramedics and patients to have comfort, and convenience. Hopefully by now you can see where im going with this…

Typically in today’s campervans, you need heat, light, and power to multiple electrical appliances. With solar fitted to the system, along with an MT50, split charger, underbody water tank, and electrical hookup further supplied since the van was decommissioned. Unfortunately, as this van has had the roof taken down the lights are not present so will have to be installed, wether it be by yourself or by us is ultimately up to you, but this gives flexibility with the warmness of lighting you desire!

Tried, tested, trusted by us at basevan, over the years we have sold countless 2nd generation masters, with very little issues going forward for our customers… however, all eras come to an end, and these vehicles, own such a good condition, are getting harder to come by, and with mileage so low, this is a one in a million situation!

With exceptionally low mileage for the age of this van, the mechanical side is not a worry either. Read more below.

Mechanical

This Renault master has the 2.5 dci engine under the bonnet, famed for its bulletproof reliability, paired with the 5 speed gearbox of similar status. This is known to be the ideal combination for these vans, and with this particular vehicle having such low miles on the clock, it hasn’t had to do much work in its 21 years walking this earth! Now your mind is at ease with the mechanical situation, what about the chassis? Read on!

Chassis

A concern when buying a van of such age is usually what the vehicle looks like underneath, if there’s any corrosion in areas not typically seen from outside of the vehicle. This concern is valid in many cases, when you consider transits, sprinters, and Ducatos of a similar time.

Renault, however, took a different approach when crafting such a fine piece of machinery, and considering aging and road use for years to come, they opted to galvanise every master, movano and interstar that left there factory in north-eastern France, giving fantastic rustproofing that is still reflected in todays offerings of the older vans!

Dont believe us? Coming soon below will be our underneath video, where you can see all areas underneath the vehicle! We advise arching this video to put any doubts to sleep before viewing the vehicle in person

MOT

It Passed its MOT on December 4th, 2023 which will expire on December 3 2024. If you look online you will see it has 2 advisories, Slight play on lower arm ball joints (both sides).

These aren’t deemed by us to be severe issues, and should be okay for a while yet, however it may be worth keeping a keen eye on going forward. If this doesn’t suit you, we can carry out the work for extra cost.

Currently waiting our inspection, we look forward to providing you with this information!

Great van, at basevan.
